The local area has many interesting links to the Twelfth Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers.
First, the
Sanborn Memorial Stone at the top of New Hampshire Avenue in Weirs Beach was erected in 1882 by members and friends of the Twelfth Regiment.
Second, Ira C. Evans, who was honored by the New Hampshire Veterans Association at its annual encampment in Weirs Beach in 1903, was a member of the Twelfth, and published the definitive book about the Twelfth in Concord in 1897. The book, written by Asa W. Bartlett, can be read online in its entirety
