Not for nothing but that's rather insulting - personally if they (HD) are going to cap that discount at $50 and make it that much of a pain to get it, why even bother? Seems more like a PR stunt than anything else.

OTH - Lowes just gives you a flat 10% on everything, no caps no exceptions that I've run into, except for specially manager marked down yellow tagged items in the store.
