My husband spoke with the assessorís assistant, and it sounds as though assessments are being done properly. They are aware of inconsistencies that will need correcting over time, through the appeals process and so on. Property values have increased a lot over the past few years, and itís to be expected that the property assessments will follow suit. That, in itself, is not a bad thing because the two valuations are supposed to be in sync with each other. What should concern us all is the tax rate that will be set in another two months or so. Unless the powers at Town Hall intend to go wild with the next budget, I would certainly hope that we see a substantial reduction in the tax (millage) rate for the next year. We need to keep a close eye on this and be involved.
