My cat does the same thing with Squirrels. I will even throw some old bread out on the deck and she watches as the squirrels come up and eat the bread. It is like they know the cats can't get them. But my cat still tries....So much so sometimes she loses some hair off the bridge of her nose. You'd think she would learn. Eventually she does.......
