In CT there is a personal property tax on vehicles. It is imposed by the municipality in which you live. Adding the CT registration fee to the personal property tax results in an amount approximately the same as the NH registration fee with its mil charges.

On top of that CT takes a 6.35% sales tax! That is a tax I shall not miss.
