As reported by ishoot308 there is more open water today.
If you look at your lake charts, winds from 270to 280 degrees funnel in over a 2 mile fetch between Locke's and Governors and then hit Welch. That southeast flow of air is then deflected southward by Welch. This somewhat matches the shape of the large patch of open water.

BTW, we on the west side of Welch often have a windy time of it.
