I think it's important when people ask about buying in the area that the responses provided are as complete as possible. Explaining the differences between associations to a prospective buyer--such as the one that came up a couple weeks ago near the Weirs (title: what am I missing?)--are a good example of this.

The suggestion to take a peak at SD/LB was a good one, but I think I'd like to know if I were buying into an association that collects, as part of its costs, money to fight lawsuits. Especially if the lawsuit might be frivolous/unwinnable (NOT saying it is) or if it could potentially lead to the state playing hardball about renewing water access rights. I think knowing these things is as important as knowing the financial status of an association.
