I would not trust a metal detector as the sole source of finding and positively identifying property markers. First off, not all markers are metal pins, many are locust stakes. Secondly, and more important - finding a marker in the area in which you think it might be is not good enough proof of lot line. Any good surveyor will tie it in to other stakes, pins, and more importantly monuments to prove-out the location and compare actual vs planned.
