While it may feel "unsmooth", I'd expect the hot side of the faucet to "ungrab" eventually.

If it doesn't have a "packing-nut", you're stuck: cheap faucets won't have one.

Thanks to Hurricane Irma, I just had a plumber install a new water heater: he turned the air blue complaining about his newly-purchased, Chinese-made, in-line ball valve. (And why I won't be having one in the copper line feeding the cold side of the water heater).
