We've had 3 Subarus in the family. I'm a car snob, and I think they are terrific. My son is very frugal, and he agrees. 250K is completely reasonable as an expectation.
Weird about the Scion--I would have kicked up a storm right away. I am not a mechanic, but I like 8gv's idea. It's just not right, especially for a new Toyota.
