Default Dramatic snow/ice melting starts today!

We are finally entering a stretch of sunny milder weather for the next couple of weeks. Even a chance of a storm next weekend is nothing more than an impotent attempt by Old Man Winter...probably rain. GFY old man!

With temps this week going into the 40s and lots of sun, southern exposed areas will melt rapidly with the sun so high. This is when the lake starts to rise. An early sign of the ice starting to come undone. It's also the time for dock posts, encased in ice, to be pulled up and heave.

The end of Feb is typical "low tide" for Winnipesaukee. The lake level has dropped to 2.71 (see below on black). With the snow pack and milder temps I would expect the lake to at least start it's steady rise this week.
Here is where we sit today (BLACK). It's only up from here.

Lake temp 31 at Lakeport
642 cfs d/c at Lakeport Dam

Just some thoughts while I watch the melting...it's been a long winter but we are finally about to see and hear some things we haven't in a while!
