The European 914S version was last made in 1976: first gear would take you to 50-MPH.
There was a
four-cylinder "914S" shipped to the North America market.
I drove two different 914/6 models to Lake Winnipesaukee. On a whim, I left the race course at Pease AFB and drove my 1970 914/6 to check on our old cottage. The folks had sold it away earlier.
But as a result of that 914/6 tour to Wolfeboro, I learned that the new owner was in bankruptcy court and we made an offer shortly afterwards—

You may be describing the 924S. At the time, the 924 was described as the "best-handling Porsche". (Perhaps by those who never mastered the 911S.
