Very dramatic changes indeed. The "steam" is fog (but you knew that) and fog eats ice and snow like crazy.

Over in my neck of the woods, parts of the lake that had ice fishermen on them on Saturday reporting 14 inches of ice with 8 of it being solid black ice are now grayish/black and moving in the wind. It will easily be open water by the end of the week if not sooner.
