As an IT manager, the first thing I do is download and install the Malwarebytes free version. Restart your computer in safe mode and run a full scan.

Some malware will shut down Malwarebytes and other protection. If Malwarebytes keeps crashing when you do a scan download and run rkill. That will shut down the malware processes so they can be removed.

This doesn't always work but it's a great way to start. The premium version of Malwarebytes is pro-active blocking threats and is well worth the cost of the subscription.
