The reality is that most anywhere an hour from Boston is going to be low crime, decent schools, etc. Going north, though, I would look to Londonderry, Windham, Bedford/Amherst, etc. Some of the smaller towns, like Mont Vernon, are nice but have low populations and, therefore, school systems and extracurriculars that may be financially weaker.
