That's always the way it's been. I was quoted something like $2000 for my '02 Nissan Frontier OEM radio replacement back in '04, but there's no way the MSRP was $2k higher because of the radio. Nobody ever replaced factory radios because of the absurd costs—it's why mobile electronics dealers exist!
