If you are looking for volunteer work other than around the holidays, you might look into being a volunteer driver for the Interlakes Community Caregivers (
http://www.interlakescommunitycaregi...volunteer.html). There are always those who have need, year round, to get to appointments and to things like the supermarket and post office but who can't drive themselves. It's a nice way to meet people, get to know where things are located, and in general to "be of use."
