Usually closer than 10'. But yeah try not to get too close to the blinking ones,, their non-blinking buds are not far away.
The ones that get me are the black ones wayyyyy off shore with no companion. In pitch black, even if you watch charts close, you could easily bonk one. I know of 3 in Merideth Bay that made me go
first time I saw them up way too close.
