Some islands still have outhouses. No biggy.
My understanding is that the outhouses are slid over to a different location, and the former hole was filled in.
Because of the relatively small amount of EFFLUENT, they were probably not a problem for lake water quality. However, add gray water (shower, washer, and dishwasher water) to a septic system and LEACH field, and contamination potential to lakewater is greatly increased.
