I found many great pics from the '30s of my mom, my grandmother and my great grandmother, staying in houses all along Dochkam Shore. A few of the houses are still standing, but most are being replaced by mcmansions that sit empty most of the year. Maybe this economic downturn will help remind people of the virtues of a simple cabin by the lake.
We love our McMansion just as much as those in the past loved their simple cabins. Our house does sit empty sometimes but that doesn't mean we don't cherish our time at the lake and look forward to a time in our lives when we'll be able to be there more often.
