They're all photos. In the olden days there was no color cameras. To add color each black and white photograph was hand painted with a watercolor paint. Wallace Nutting from Massachusetts was one of the premiere practitioners in the early 1900's. Wallace Nutting's colorists painted the photographs which he took.
