You've gotten some good advice on keeping filters clean and vacuuming out the housing of hair, dust, etc. These units are bullet proof and need basically no maintenance other than what you can do, but a while back they did have a recall on some of the units for potential danger.

If you don't feel comfortable doing these simple things yourself, then by all means contact your gas supplier to do the service.
