Tragic fall this past weekend by a former champion in New Zealand, similar to Bill Johnson getting back into downhill skiing. The Winnipesaukee races were a spectacle because of the skill level and fearless nature of the participants. Some of the boats probably made 70-80 mph in stretches. What's more remarkable is the relative lack of safety gear for the skiers and crew. I'm hoping there's enough interest out there to bring a bunch of these boats out for everyone to see next summer.

Respected Hamilton businessman and waterski racing champion Tony van Deursen died on Saturday while waterskiing on Lake Taupo.
