My recollection is that Jackson Star closed AFTER Hannaford's opened. So not, Hannaford's did not replace the lost jobs at Jackson Star, it caused them.
On the other hand, it is cheaper at H than at JS, and way more organic food, so that is a positive. But that doesn't change the causal relationship between old jobs and new jobs. The old jobs were lost because of the new jobs, not the new jobs helped recovery from the loss of the old jobs.
Anyone know the comparison between wages, etc. at the old and new stores? I imagine the wage bill is way lower at H, and that anyone from JS who now works at H took a substantial cut in pay.
