The lake ice is rapidly melting. Several days of sunny weather in the 40s are
ahead and will likely continue the melting process. Yesterday a group of three
deer walked from Bear Island across the main part of the lake to Moultonborough
Neck but walked very tentatively. The human activity that was on the ice earlier
this week is now gone.

Last weekend saw the opening of an annual lead between Black Cat Island and Black Cat
Shoals. The opening occurred a week earlier than it did last year.

Black Cat Shoals is now in open water, as are most other rocks and the shoreline.
The ice has been re-freezing a bit on nights that go below freezing but not enough
to match the amount of melting that is now taking place during the day.
