CHILLING OUT FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN MEREDITH
Hundreds of spectators lined the town docks in Meredith Sunday afternoon to watch almost 60 people jump into Lake Winnipesaukee for the Winni Dip, a new fundraiser to benefit the Special Olympics.

State Attorney General Kelly Ayotte led the plunge Sunday with a group of participants clad in green St. Patrick's Day attire. Over a dozen public safety departments participated as well, including Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier, the police chiefs of Dover, Nashua and Woodstock, Moultonborough and Meredith officers as well as officials from the State Liquor Commission, Belknap County Attorney's office and Merrimack and Belknap County Sheriff's departments.

The water was a chilly 33 degrees, but officials said that was five degrees warmer than the Atlantic Ocean was during the Penguin Plunge in February in Hampton. The air was a much more comfortable 47 degrees and the sun decided to poke its head out just in time for the dip to begin.
