Let’s face it, the speed limit law is nothing more than a “feel good” law.

There is no empirical evidence that speeding on the lake is an issue. In fact, the evidence says it isn’t.

There are enough laws currently on the books, as referenced above, to ensure the safe passage of boats. So enacting a new law does nothing to increase safety but it will help the State as it will generate a new revenue source.

So do we start with a 45mph then move to a 40mph and 35mph... or in other words do we start at a speed that is no faster than a horse at a gallop then slowly reduce the speed limit to one of a horse at a trot.

Seriously, what should happen alongside the new speed limit law is to change the 150 foot law to be more like the Motor Vehicle laws. So instead of a absolute number (150feet) the new boating law should use "reasonable" distance.
