Default Penguin Plunge

In past threads we have discussed the benefits of doing a *controlled* cold-water swim in order to reduce the mental shock value of taking an accidental winter swim (fall through ice, etc.) If being in cold water is something you've done before, you would hopefully be better able to concentrate on getting out rather than freaking out.

Tomorrow morning (Thurs. Feb. 21) NBC's Meredith Viera will be doing the annual 'Penguin Plunge' in Lake Champlain, on the Today Show. The show will be done at Sugarbush Ski Resort for the day (instead of their NYC studio.) If you've got the morning off, head up there for a few turns and get yourself on national TV at the same time.

Viera and many other participants will be swimming in an area that's currently frozen - organizers will be breaking up the ice with heavy equipment before it takes place. This event raises money for Vermont Special Olympics. Check the Today Show's website for more details or to make a donation.
