There are different types.
Of the locking lugs that I have, the five outside ends are engraved with a deep wavy pattern.
To attach or remove, they require a matching pattern "key" which is inserted into the lug wrench. If the key is lost, the lug can still be removed; oftentimes, a pipe wrench will work.
