Before doing anything and with your battery switch off, try spraying around the up - down control button on your throttle shift lever with electronics cleaner. Let dry for a few minutes then try it.

This is pretty standard operating procedure on a couple of my boats every couple years. Seems like grime and corrosion easily gets around the button and affects the contacts in the switch.

Use ONLY electronics cleaner nothing else!
