so I'll leave this one unanswered for the moment. I agree that starboard-side helm stations make sense for the reasons stated but it wasn't always this way. I recall one reason I've heard was that it was proper etiquette to board people on the starboard side, so to make docking easier the helm was to starboard. However here's a few boats from the Winni photo vault that say not everyone agreed .... (enjoy)
