As has been said, the flashing hourglass is an indication that the guage is recording hours. The actual hours, usually to a tenth of an hour, should be displayed as well. You may need to disconnect your battery to kill power to the guage cluster to allow it to reset. This will not reset the actual hours but may clear the guage display if it has "scrambled" itself....
