I was invited for a sail, I believe it was out of Salem harbor. Several of us were on board when my curiosity got the best of me, so I ask:

What's the meaning of your boat's name? (I tend to enjoy the story behind why a particular name was chosen for a boat).

The owner answers dryly: "I don't know"

Not believing this, I continue: How can you not know? It's your boat! Really, what does it mean?!?!?

I get the same answer: "I don't know!"

Ok, I truely can't believe he wouldn't know what is means, so I continue: "How can you not know what the name of your boat means? Was the name already on it when you purchased it and were you too superstitious to change it?"

No, he says, "Non lo so" litteraly means "I don't know" in Italian!

Yes, I bit and took the bait, hook, line and sinker.

I guess he loves it whenever anyone asks about his boat name.

This happened to me about 30 years ago, and I still get a chuckle out of it, but I sure felt like a dope at the time!
