Cool Meredith Post Office

Although I understand the frustrations of dealing with the public, I wonder if postal employees receive any training. I just spent several minutes on the phone being lectured about my responsibilities to the Post Office. I thought it was a service organization. Silly me.

My RFD mail box is iced in, my husband and I are both infirm (although we have maintained access to said box for 33 years), and the new regulations require a fee of $430 to allow me to pick up mail at the PO on a daily basis, or use salt to melt the ice, and put a hold for 3 days only after which the mail will again be scheduled for delivery BUT if box is still not accessible, mail will be returned to sender! But, of course, the other solution is to rent a PO Box. It's only $22 and will require a complete address change and all that that entails.

What happened to customer service? Am I expecting too much to have a helpful and manageable solution?
