I don't work for the USPS, nor am I a vendor, but am in the mailing industry and know why the USPS is having a problem. While emails and electronic payments have cut into their business the real problem is that per an act of Congress in 2006, the USPS must pre-fund their employee retirement for the next 75 years. No other agency of the government is burdened with this requirement. To date they have pre-funded 44 Billion dollars. If you are interested in knowing the whole truth, take a look at an article that was written in Time magazine. BTW, as a manufacturer and shipper of parts to customers, UPS and FedEx have lost packages that were shipped out of my plant numerous times, and unless I insured them for a hefty cost, all I got back was 50 bucks max.
