The Fairpoint DSL appears to be very reliable. Speeds are limited (right now) to 1.5 megabits on the Island, but you do get a real 1.5 megabits.

Faster? Verizon 4G (which works at the Island) may be faster, but you pay for data usage, which mounts up pretty quickly.

A link to the mainland, with either Fairpoint (7 megabits and higher is available, depending on location) or the appropriate cable provider for the area as the back end will be the fastest, but you will need to arrange with someone on the mainland who is line of sight to your location and who will let you create such a link.

For all but the most bandwidth intensive uses, Fairpoint is probably sufficient, and the price is good.
