There was, indeed, a Judge Horne, and he owned the 5 & 10. He was not a lawyer (you didn't have to be a lawyer in those days to be a judge), but he did have a very clear view of justice based on what was right and wrong. When I got my driver's license my father told me to obey the rules, but to be particularly careful in the Alton district. You see, my father and Archie Horne had been college roommates, and nobody knew Archie better than my Dad. I remember to this day my father's advice about driving in Alton. !!
