Your Defense is Commendable
Kudos to you for coming to her defense, but shame on you for playing the "cancer card". It is not your decision to use her illness to justify her behavior.
Incidentally, I have been a medical researcher for 20 years and currently conduct clinical trials for several cancer treatment agents.
I have had hundreds of cancer patients enrolled in my studies, so I have walked a mile, and with some patients a marathon, in her/their shoes.
Even my sickest patients are not as unpleasant as she is.
I pity her, and her situation, and I hope that she is getting proper care for her illness.
I have always greeted her with a smile and a hello, and have never had it returned.
Treat people with kindness, and you will get it in return.
