That, I believe, is commonly called mallow...

That, I believe, is commonly called mallow (malva) and it's in the same family as the hibiscus. I think it self-seeds and is not particularly invasive.

If you go to the Nordic Skier Sports store on the main drag in Wolfeboro they will sell you a photocopied map with the local trains marked up for a buck. They even had some trails down by my house...
