Harbor Freight - great coupons

We have had HF here in NJ for years. I agree, not necessarily the place for professional contractors, but for those of us who occasionally need a tool, it's great. Also, their coupons have gotten me...

VK is tops!

Had early dinner (4:45 pm) last Friday at VK. The broiled haddock special was worth the trip from Alton. Only 3 cars in the lot and 3 booths occupied. There were many takeout orders called in when I...

Thanks, Slick craft!

Spent several days in Alton last week. Saturday the 13th was a perfect day to watch the runway. Had early dinner at the Dockside and had a front row seat for watching some planes and helicopters take...

This time NJ got slammed.

About 2 feet here in northeast NJ (about 12 miles west of GW Bridge). It snowed from Sunday afternoon till late morning on Tuesday. Luckily I ran the snowblower on Monday when we had 15" of powdery...

No thanks

Staying in an uninsulated cottage with no running water to boot isn't my idea of a good time. Unless April is unusually warm, May 1 is soon enough to start enjoying the season.

Since we are on town water, we can't open up until late April after Alton turns on the water beyond the back bay bridge on Route 11.

Sandy Point

Just wish the Farmer's Kitchen had taken over Sandy Point Restaurant. The diner in Wolfeboro isn't very big. Will this be open year round or just tourist season?

Getting to 91 is the problem

I tried using 91 on my trip back to NJ. The problem was getting to 91 from Alton was a nightmare. I took Route 89 to 9, no problem, but from there on it was terrible. I was stuck behind 2 tanker...

Changed made

Correct, Barney Bear. Too many toll booths too close together on the GSParkway. I live right off Exit 157. They have improved the spacing by eliminating half the toll booths but doubling the tolls....

Culture shock!

This thread rings a bell. My retired parents stayed in Alton Bay from May - October for 30 years. Every fall when they returned to northern NJ, my Dad would need about a month to get over the shock...

Winter Carnival

Most activities will be in the parking lot instead of on the ice. Several years ago when the ice was thinner too, they had horse drawn wagon rides instead of the sled.

Property taxes

Wow! Their property taxes are almost $1000/yr less than what I pay here in NJ for a house assessed at $149K. Mine would sell for about $325K and is a 1300 square ft cape on a 48x100' lot. I chuckle...

Wolfeboro Bay?

To me it looks like Barndoor Island behind The Mount and Rattlesnake Island in the background. Gunstock all the way in the back??

The 2 keyless remotes for my 2010 Malibu lasted until this past spring & summer. The diagnosis was broken contacts inside on both. I lucked out at this website recently too as the A.C. Delco remotes...

1988

I remember very well, it was 1988 when we had a stretch of 90+ degree days. My nephew was born 7/21/88 and we were in a stretch of hot weather and the lake got to 84 degrees. We tied our inflatable...

Don't believe anyone who tells you this! In NJ we have the highest property taxes in the USA. We have a high, progressive income tax, and in the early 70's we got a 3% sales tax. The sales tax is now...

Dock space???

The operator's boating skills have nothing to do with difficulty finding a dock space at the public docks. You would need 3 or 4 empty spots in a row to fit that big of a boat. How often does that...
