Not a problem

Your starter will draw only what it needs. Those extra cranking amps wonít be force fed into your electronics, the new battery simply has more capacity to deliver more amps if demanded.

It would make me very nervous to have a power...

It would make me very nervous to have a power cord in the water around where people swim, etc. The risk of having an electric shock hazard is not zero. Just my 2cents.

Black plastic pipe diameter

I use 1-1/4 inch (O.D.), which is typical, I believe. So 1” connectors.

The foot valve would certainly be a first thing to check, especially if you don’t hold the prime if you turn the pump...

The camp is open!

Fired up the water system today. Only challenge was the ice snapped off a ball valve I have down at the water that I use to drain the black pipe back to sea level in the fall. My son and I had...

Weather and opening

By mid-April youíre fine. Even if it drops below freezing briefly overnight, it would take a sustained cold snap to put pipes at risk. If you are at all worried, leave a few taps dribbling when...

The ice is darkening....

Still some weeks to go, but all we need is warm, wind and wet to accelerate us into ice-out!

And btw, full lake can be gauged by the side boards on the dock — when full, the water touches the...

Water Levels

Too soon to panic, but looking at my permanent dock and then the Bizer water level chart, itís clear that weíve got a very long way to go to get to full lake. Yes, this is the time of year when the...

Maybe not

Gas for the boat is pretty short money compared to the cost of boat ownership on the lake overall (slip, boat maintenance, boat cost). I suspect boating traffic is relatively insensitive to the...

Power

Power came back Thursday on Mink. As is usually the case, lost power on Bear causes power to be lost down stream ó Mark and Mink Islands. On the NHEC map, if you see a blue dot, that was a...

Mink too....

I second the view that NHEC needs to have access to an airboat. We want their crews to be safe. But we also need our power restored to prevent damage to our properties.

Given that we had another late ice-in this season, and with the current warm-up, Iím off the ice for the season. Iím sure there are some who will still venture out ó like the regulars who ice fish...

Thursday Ice Report

I got on at Sheps this morning — easy access — and rode over to Mink Island along the south side of Bear Island. Cattle Landing was solid. No pressure ridge so far this year, which is nice. A...

Sheps

Interesting. My R5 is 25+ ft but is in one of the slips on the backside on the left with a piling separating me from a boat on the other side. Tight fit beam-wise but works. You have one of the...

Wasnít that at Meredith Marina, not Mountain View YC?

Sheps is charging $3,000 for a slip this year.

Access at Sheps?

Curious whether there is good access at Shepís this year.

7-8 inches is right in line with where I estimated it would be using the degree days calculation. Should add another ~4 inches by...

A few winters ago on a Thursday (another one of those slow starting winters), I got on the lake on a snowmo at Sheps. Tested the ice and had 7 inches of black ice. Kept going towards Cattle...

Ice activity around Cattle Landing

Anyone been cutting holes around Cattle Landing? Curious whether anyone has been on the ice from Sheps to Cattle Landing really. Thinking about coming up this weekend to check things out, but...
