Schofield's At The Gunstock Inn On 11A In Gilford

My wife and I saw an advertisment for this place and decided to try it on Saturday for the All You Can Eat Buffet.

Wow this is trully a hidden gem. It is the best restaurant I have been to in the lakes region and one of the best anywhere period. I have been traveling for a living for 25 years and have been to many restraurants all over the country.

The owner/chef Andy is a great guy that really cares about his business, food and customers. He is a rae individual that wants to please people with his food. He says most everything is homemade and bought fresh everyday.

The buffet on Saturday night was all you can eat for $21.95 or one trip for $14.95. We found out the hard way that one trip is all you relly need.

The buffet had soups, salads many types of chicken and pasts, whole made sausage that was awesome, fish, prime rib, steak, vegtables , potatos and the best ribs I have ever had. There is a lso a full complement of cakes for dessert. There was more but I forgot the rest. If you don't see something you like or want a dish prepared differently Andy will make whatever you want as part of the buffet. He also said in a couple more weeks there will be more including clams and scallops.

I will guarentee you any item on this buffet will compare and most likely be better then a dish ordered off the menu at your favorite restraurant. I was blown away by the preparation and tase of items on a buffet.

It is a great atmosphere. Kind of quaint and quiet but not to stuffy and very friendly

This is a place you must try. Right now it seems not too many people know about this restraurant.

Does the one trip mean you have to get desserts at that one trip also? I think I might have to try this place when we go up in August.

I just looked up the website and there are different themed buffets during the week. There is also a Sunday breakfast buffet. This is the website:

The one trip is one trip up for soups and salads. One trip up for your main entrees, then one trip to the desserts.

A friend went there and has been raving about how good this place is. I did not even know it was over there until he told me about it.

Been waiting for a review of this place.

I drive past the Gunstock Country Inn every day, and have been reluctant to try it due to a terrible dining experience a few years back (when it was probably under different management). Thanks to this forum, I'm willing to take a chance again. Will post when I do. :)

i've also eaten there and it is really good!!
While talking to the chef the first night we were there, he said the town wouldn't let him put up a sign for some reason (I forget). Therefore, a lot of people dont even know that it is there when they drive by.
Definitly worth trying out.

Closed?

Is Schofields still open?

A bunch of us are/were going to go this later this week, but when I go to check which days they are open I notice that their tab has been removed from the Gunstock Inns page. A quick google search and zvents tells me they are 'closed'.

Maybe they are seasonal and are closed until ski season starts? They have what is unequivocally the best buffet ever, so I cannot and will not believe they are gone for good.

Schofield's is Closed

Talked to the Landlord of the Inn and was informed that Schofield's had closed with no warning and he said that another restaurant would be going in soon, maybe a couple of weeks.

I think this was mentioned on another thread earlier, as someone had purchased gift certificates for $25 off restaurant.com (you pay anywhere from $1-$10 per gift certificate). They went to use the certificate and discovered it was closed. That was a couple of weeks ago, I believe.

I guess that is why hidden gems don't last long- too bad it sounded like a good place.

Michael's

In another thread, somebody mentioned that Michael's from the Weirs is or has moved to the Gunstock Inn. Can anybody verify?

Went there last night and spoke with Michael (from Michael's) he said it was a rent issue that prompted the move. Verified. But you mentioned in another thread it was close to home so why not drive by and see. :rolleye2:
