Meredith kayak-canoe launches
As far as I know, there are four different Town of Meredith spots for launching a hand carried kayak or canoe on Lake Winnipesaukee. Meredith town docks, Lovejoy Sands-Shep Browns, Cattle Landing, and Leavitt Park. As far as I know, there is no charge at any of these spots for launching a hand carry as opposed to a trailer unload. Trailer-motor boat launches, at 'town docks' and Lovejoy Sands now cost 20 dollars when there's someone there to collect your money.
..... Leavitt Park is a waterfront beach area with lifeguard, roped swim area, toilets, picnic tables and grill, swings and parking. It is located about 1/4 mile off Route 25, aproximately one mile west of the Center Harbor-Meredith town line. Watch carefully for the small green, street sign style sign 'Leavitt Park', as the road goes around a curve on fast moving Route 25. For kayak/canoe launching Leavitt Park has a one lane, 1/8 mile long, elevated dirt road to the water, passing through the swampy woods, that starts at the rear of the parking lot, and goes to the water's edge. It's a real, true-to-life, olde fashioned, "On Golden Pond" type setting which is a rarity on Winnipesaukee for public access. ...... Cattle Landing is another excellent spot to launch. It is a small dirt, 30 car parking lot with a town dock, and/or short, steep carry trail to the water, located way down, about seven miles, the end of Meredith Neck. There is no sign what-so-ever indicating the Cattle Landing town dock and parking lot.......no cattle grazing either. Watch for the concrete dock, wood stairs, dirt parking lot and a small telephone utility building with a pay phone. For kayaks/canoes a lake navigation map is helpfull but not totally necessary because paddlers, unlike motor-boaters, are able to read the waters.:D.....happy paddling! One can always ask directions from a friendly motor-boater......no-fool'n.:) Water temps are warming up, no longer painfully cold, and are swimable in a bathing suit for the determined as of today, May 24. |
