Phone service in Moultonborough other than Fairpoint?
Anyone know of any option other than Fairpoint for phone service in the area of M'boro near Center Harbor? Tried MetroCast and it says that their svc is not avail in zip 03254. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Time Warner cable services Moultonboro

There are some that buy from Fairpoint and are resellers at a reduced price. I don't know if they do residential and business. BCN , Communications One I think it is called are two of them. I think there are a few more but I just can't think of them now.
But as wifi said, Metrocast does Wolfeboro and Time Warner does Tuftonboro and Moultonboro. |

Vonage is great
I'm on TWC in Moultonborough and use Vonage for both business and home phone lines. It is great! Cheaper than Fairpoint or TWC's digital phone service, and provides many more features. The quality and reliability is good enough for "work at home" business use, even for very demanding clients. There is one fixable problem though. If anyone on your network is uploading heavy traffic while a call is active, such as posting pictures on Picasa, you will get poor voice quality. This can be corrected (as in 'totally fixed') with a Hawking Technology HBB1 Broadband booster. Cost is about $50. It sits in-line between your cable modem and internal router. It ensures that streaming connections (such as vonage) gets the bandwidth it requires.

Vonage
We use Vonage, and it's great. We never have any problems and it is so much cheaper! We've had it for almost 3 years an no complaints.

another option
Another option out there is Ooma. Different service model, buy hardware and then depending on service features pay no bill (or very little). I had Vonage for a couple years prior to switching - while Vonage had a problem porting my number, Ooma completed very quickly.
In over a year I have had no problems with service or quality of call. |
I should have provided a bit more information. The Ooma hardware is available from a variety of stores (Best Buy, Amazon) and Amazon has the box right now for $209. Once the service is activated you pay no monthly bills.
The basic service includes: # Free US calling with no monthly fees # Bundled features, like caller-ID, call-waiting, and voicemail at no extra charge # Exceptional voice quality and reliability # The ability to hear messages from any ooma device, phone, or computer # Low-cost international rates starting at a penny per minute # Easy setup to get you up and dialing # A new number from any calling area in the US # The option to keep your phone number for a one-time fee ($39.99) You can pay an additional $12.99 monthly to get: * free number porting * 2nd phone line for both incoming and outgoing calls * bunch of other 'cool' features they do have a website. The basic service is great for camps as you don't have to pay for phone service in the off season and as long as you have broadband, you plug in your Ooma and you're back in action. No paying for unused phone lines to keep the phone number you've got. |

What about the MagicJack?????
Any one tried the "MagicJack"? It sounds good for $20.00 a year.
Web site for MagicJack http://www.magicjack.com/2/?mid=307001&a=55959&s= |
i have a family member with magic jack - works well, just as advertised. The drawbacks are:
1) Your computer has to be on for it to work 2) The availability of local numbers is limited - they have a Lowell, MA number but live in Alton - not real handy for folks to call you |
i got sick of paying for the phone at the lake 3 years ago and decided to just go with cell service which is pretty decent where I am at, I'd like to do the same down here on the seacoast but the wife won't go along with it.
For internet service I just pay the tethering fee for my blackberry |
