Wolfeboro Airpark Purchase Confirmed...
The rumor of its changing hands again...has been confirmed as a fact. (And somewhere, there is a delighted realtor!) :D
From a source that has been reliable in the past, I've just learned that the entire 130± acre Wolfeboro site of the former "Lakes Region Airpark" has been purchased by the Marriott family of Tuftonboro Neck! (Now of Wolfeboro Neck too). :) The purchase includes two huge McMansions presently under construction on 3-acres—nearly 600 feet front-feet on the lake there. Together, both were formerly for sale at around $9 million. This purchase includes Johnson's Cove (and one empty lot formerly for sale at $4½ million. :eek:) The Wolfeboro Airport History thread at the History forum will get updated with any new information when all the recent excitement over there dies down. ;) Now, with the: 1) tall pines removed from the eastern end of the open, "former runway", 2) existing all-steel hanger building still remaining adjacent to the "former runway", 3) the "former runway" significantly widened, 4) floatplane access to Lake Winnipesaukee from the "former runway" still open, and 5) the "former runway" newly extended within 200 feet of the lake's edge...:idea: It would make a great airport! http://www.afte.org/forum/smf1/Smile...smf/smiley.gif ETA: Uh-oh. ....a new summer camp?
So many summer camps has disappeared to be replaced by large vacation homes. It would be nice to see this 130 acres of mostly open land on Wolfeboro Neck built into a traditional summer camp run by an organization like the girl scouts/boy scouts, or a religious group. If anyone could accomplish that, it would be Bill Marriott.

Wonder if that is their plan, re-establish as a private airport to make their commute from Washington, DC more convenient.

That's interesting APS.Could be a positive thing in that Marriot might not want develop the parcel but instead have an even bigger family enclave than they currently enjoy.

And when the neighbors and Town officials in Gilford push Ames Farm to the breaking point, Marriott can buy that too. They they can have Tuftonboro Neck, Wolfeboro Neck and Gilford on their list of lakefront properties...
Just think, Bill Marriott can jump in his boat over in Winter Harbor and be at Ames Farm in a matter of minutes. What better way to check up on the housekeeping staff at their new Gilford Marriott resort! |

I actually heard approx. 3yrs. ago that Marriott was seriously looking to purchase Ames farm (don't know if it was for a chain or for another compound) but that is was almost definate. Wonder what happened. Must have come across a better deal I guess:laugh:

Just wondering if anyone has heard anymore on the airport and what the selling price was. Some of those "lots" were in the 3-4 millon dollar range, I'm wondering what the total sale price was.

Not A Deal
I heard several weeks ago that the Marriott deal fell through.

We heard the same thing that the deal fell through. At least one sale in that area had already gone through though but I don't think it was part of the airport.

RE Airpark sale
We had a guest at our house last evening who is knowledgeable about goings on around the lake and he also said that the Airpark's sale to Marriott had fallen through. I wonder what's next for the property.

Maybe it would work out as a "Gated Airpark" for those wealthy people who would like to park their planes right next to their upscale homes. This has been done in other places.

What's next is foreclosure. I suppose ANYONE could buy it at auction.

Marriots indeed purchased the the old airport in Wolfeboro. Any detail$? Anyone?:liplick:

From a reputable source I was told that it was essentially the same deal that was put together a few years ago. A little over $14M. To correct acres per second, the property includes the land, the old hanger and on the original off lake spec house. The other larger homes are on other lots that were sold off at other times and not included. Yankee Pedlar and Maxfield Real estate are the brokers who put the deal together.
