Rust Pond - Wolfeboro
1 Attachment(s)
Rust Pond is located in South Wolfeboro just off busy Rt. 28 near the sharp corner and the Cider Press Restaurant. It was once known as Springfield Pond and was owned by the Springfield family whose yellow home sits on Rt. 28 and is identified with an historical plaque. The Springfield family owned a blanket mill/factory in this general area that was powered by what was called a flume which ran from Rust Pond to Lake Winnipesaukee. As you can see in the postcard below, it froze up in the winter. Springfield Point, on the BIG lake is named after this family as well.

I picked up an old negative in an e-bay auction recently. I scanned it and photo-enhanced it. I clicked on "Effects", "color" and "negative"...and to my amazement (as I have no idea what I'm doing)...it turned into a positive (?) and here you go! Isn't this a great old Photo?

Interesting
The Hill School is no more than 10 miles from my house in Pottstown, PA. I didn't know about the connection to my favorite place in the whole world (Wolfeboro).

Rust Pond --- Hill School Camp
I attended The Hill School in Pottstown from 1945-49, and spent several summers at the Hill Camp on Rust Pond. It was a great place to do some catch-up school work and still have a recreational camping experience. We got time to walk to Wolfeboro on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday evenings. Wonderful quiet town back then --- recently visited and it is now a bustling center. ataplow@gmail.com

My dad did a summer stint at the Hill School on Rust Pond when he was a kid. Guess the grades were not so hot that year. So he commuted from Melvin Village to Hill School daily.
One of my oldest friends from home in PA had a family camp on Rust Pond, and I can remember us going over to the Hill School waterfront and plunging off of a high dive there. Good times. |
Rust Pond and Copple Crown by Moonlight
Hi,
I am trying to find out if the post card of Rust Pond and Copple Crown by Moonlight was created by a post card artist (miniature) or from a painting. Either way, I am looking for the original to make a digital copy from to enlarge, or the name of the artist. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
Hill School
My father in law, Peter Webster taught at the Hill School and the camp in the mid to late 60's. He bought a place in Wolfeboro in 1966, from where I write this reply. This is my wife's 51st summer spent on Winni.

@ mcdude Thank you for this forum thread on rust pond.

My father was friendly with the owner and when they got rid of their tents they gave us one of the great big old ones. We put furniture in it and had so much fun playing in that tent.
