New proposed bill HB 490

HB490 asks anyone who lives on a water body in the state which has a dam to pay .35 cents a foot to help pay for the dam. Will they ever have enough of our money or will they always just keep thinking up ways to spend it? I know the answer to that, it was just rhetorical, obviously. Let's hope it doesn't go anywhere.!

I'm thinking that for the extra $ 0.70 (35 cents x 2 feet) it's worth it. I'd even toss in the the extra 0.30 to make it an even dollar. I suspect and centipedes owning lakefront property might feel differently though. I can see the headlines now ....

its always been to hit the waterfront owners since many are out of state and can't vote and view is they can pay so first you tax higher due to property values then this tax and next they will tax non residents higher Must make legislators feel good with their anti tax pledge

So if you have 100 feet of waterfront, it would cost you $35.00/year, plus it could be either a federal tax deduction or a credit. ...jussst too dam bad!.

There's another bill in the house which advocates releasing increased amounts of water from Lake Winnipesaukee, for creating rapids on the Winnipesaukee River in Belmont and Tilton for white water kayaking.

Wouldn't it be a "nice" fee if it were to go for insuring lakefront owners for dock repairs when the dam-people get the lake level wrong and damage our docks in the spring? :rolleye1:

Well, now that I think about it, dock repairs bring in a lot of money to the state's economy. :rolleye2:
