Loon Preservation Committee?

The Loon Preservation Committee (Loon Center) where you are hoping to have the FF also has needs and is a non profit organization.

The Loon Preservation Committee is a 501(c)(3) organization. As such, all contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

Perhaps by choosing them as your charity for this year, you may have a better chance of obtaining the use of the facilities.

For more on the organization, click here: http://www.loon.org/index.html

Just a thought.

Argie's Wife 08-28-2008 07:57 AM

Very good point... ! :o:blush:

(I really need a "DUH!" emoticon here...)

To be honest... I was going by what was done in the past. I know that some of the folks who organized this in the past are tired of always being the ones who do this sorta thing and I totally understand.... So, I was trying to model this after the previous years' events.

I'm going to edit my initial post based on your input....

Quilt Lady 08-28-2008 04:57 PM

I'll start the donations list . . .

I will donate (drum roll, please) a Quilt! Since this is an election year, the Forum Fest V Quilt is a Red, White and Blue beauty. Democrat, Republican or Independent, we all need to keep warm this winter. Some lucky forum member will be warmer than the rest. When I have the final touches done, I will post a picture for all to see.

Argie's Wife 08-28-2008 05:16 PM

Quilt Lady, you're my hero! I love your work! Thank you!!!

P.S.
I use "Safari" as my internet browser and the Thank You buttons don't show up.
This is my OFFICIAL THANK YOU to all who are offering to donate something for a wonderful cause!

Last year, it was possible to purchase raffle tickets by mail.

Will that be an option this year?

Here's the thread with the list of raffle items and winners from last year (and a list of food items):

P.S.- Quilt Lady deserves a Thank You vote for her post.

I will try and get past my shop today and take a look to see if I have anything that is worth it.

Argie's Wife 08-29-2008 08:09 AM

GWC - I've updated my initial post to include the mailing option. I explored the PayPal option and am sickened by the high fees they charge - not a good option, really.

Thank you for the links! :)

nhhumane 08-29-2008 09:52 AM

The critters are sad...

Over 160 cats and 50 dogs are saddened that you have decided not to consider sending a small donation for their care. Even a $25 amount will sponsor the care of one of the animals and your group could have their name placed on the website - www.nhhumane.org
If you are interested in one of the "breathing pets" (run by batteries), no vet fees, no food bills, and full adoption papers for your auction please let me know.
Maybe a consideration for a dual effort (Loon & NHHS?) afterall they are both animal related.

twoplustwo 08-29-2008 11:00 AM

count me in for something

Argie's Wife, I have no skills, I am not crafty, I cannot make anything (well, other than a great drink;)) but I will find something to add to the coffers.

And nhhumane, the Lakes Region Humane Society is over here, should we try for a 3-way split? :rolleye1: I count myself among your donors but I find your post in poor taste in multiple ways. Charity shouldn't be a dog eat dog (or dog eat loon) world.:(

Argie's Wife 08-29-2008 11:14 AM

Please be kind to me - I'm a volunteer, okay? ;)

No one is paying me for this and I'm only trying to help. :(

I need to think about this and get some input from some folks with experience doing this... please be patient.... I would like to do what I can to make everyone happy and not leave anyone out.... but admit I'm a "newbie" at this thing.

SIKSUKR 08-29-2008 12:00 PM

Any Fischer Cat fans?

It's not really lake related but I could donate 10 parking passes to my parking lot located right next door to the Fischer Cats stadium.

Argie's Wife 08-29-2008 12:09 PM

SIKSUKR - That would be great - I know we're Fisher Cats fans and I'm sure there's many others who would be interested! :D

=======

Sunset Bob - Your pics are always wonderful and I'm sure anything you pick would be beautiful! :)

=======

AudioFN - I look forward to seeing what you'll post! :coolsm:

twoplustwo 08-29-2008 01:37 PM

two things

My 3-way split comment was me being facetious. Send my cash to the loons.

Would a wine basket from Center Harbor Cellars go over ok? I think booze is always an option:D

Thanks for organizing this, Argie's Wife!!

I am ready to address your post now that I've had some time to think and spoken with several folks who have far more experience than I do with organizing this event.

First off, I admit I had the knee jerk reaction of saying, "Oh, we must include you, too. I'm so sorry!" I did PM you immediately and tried to suggest ways I could incorporate your request into this event but realized I was inexperienced with this and needed to get some input from others about what to do...

I do mean it when I say, "I am sorry if you felt left out or offended by the decision that was made." I felt very bad about this when I read your post today - it really cut me to the bone because I'm a big supporter of the NH Humane Society, as are many of the folks I spoke with today about the charity decision.

However, I have since learned that over $580 was raised for the NH Humane Society last year. I think it's great that your organization received that much from our forum! WOW! What a terrific show of support!

I have also learned that each year we have had only ONE charity for each Forum Fest. In 2006 the recipient was St. Balderick's and in 2005, the money went to a webcam fund. I don't believe there was a charity in 2004 but I could be wrong...

Anyhow, the point is that there's only been one charity and it's always been a different one. To change this into a multi-charity would be confusing and would cause people to choose between two or more charities who were both more than worthy of their money. Your organization was very blessed by the donation last year and it's another organization's turn now.

Please forgive me for my knee-jerk reaction - I am human and was trying to make everyone "happy". I feel it's best that the donation is not disputed and please know that you have my support and many others support in other ways than this forum fest. No offense or ill-will is meant to your organization or any others who might be reading this.

Peace,

-Krista

Let's not "get the horse in front of the cart"

I have called the Loon Center 3 times, the last was yesterday. Yesterday I did leave Mr. Vogel a message on his voice mail. I gave a brief discription of what iIwanted to speak to him about. ( The FF)

I will try him again in the AM on Saturday. Worst case, the Loon Center won't approve the use of the facility, and we will have to find another venue. Best case they would love to have us, and the proposed date would work out.

I have a feeling from talking to the staff that answered the phone that this is very busy weekend for the Loon Center.

Stay positive and stay tuned.

SteveA

SteveA 08-30-2008 09:34 AM

Ok... Loon Center has booked us

We are all set ! I just got off the phone with the LC. They have reserved the hall for FF-08. A few details need to be worked out. Internet connection for Live Cam. Mr. Vogel is likely going to want to make a brief presentation on the center, it's worth it. he does a great job.

As I suspected, the "coolers" with need to contain soft drinks, and this is no different than previous years.

We have the facility from 12-3 Sept. 20th.

Stay tuned for more details.

THREE CHEERS for SteveA!!!!!!!

Fantastic work, SteveA! You have provided us with a great place to hold the Forum Fest. Now Lakegeezer will be able to break out the webcam and we will all be international web-stars. To quote the "A-Team" guys . . . "I love it when a plan comes together!". Now we need more stuff to raffle to support our hosts at the Loon Center!

Woohoo . . . party time! Excellent!

Argie's Wife 08-30-2008 11:09 AM

Thank you SteveA - you rock!!

Many thanks to you SteveA for taking the time to make the arrangements for this event. :coolsm:

I will donate my usual set of framed prints.

Raffle Items

2 Attachment(s)
I will have two items for the raffle:

The John Stark Package: Winni.com is very educational. I often saw references to "Live Free or Die" used by folks, sometimes to back each side of a single "debate". I decided to research our hero of the American Revolution. He was an amazing man. These two items are donated to the raffle as a single prize.

This is a genuine Wedgwood Plate. It was issued at the dedication of the Bennington Battle Monument in 1891. John Stark and his men from NH were the heroes of that great victory. I love the quote from General Stark, you can read it on the back of the plate. "There are the redcoats, and they are ours, or Molly Stark sleeps a widow tonight" ( I quess that one wouldn't have fit on the NH license plates) :emb:

The 2nd part of this prize is this book:

Island Girl - Thank you for the donation of framed pictures! I'm sure they'll be beautiful! :)

Do you want them listed as one item (lot of pictures) or as several (one picture = one listing)?

SteveA - Thank you for the John Stark package! Very interesting! :patriot:

Do you want the two things listed as one item or as two?

SIKSUKR 09-02-2008 10:02 AM

AW,my parking passes are a done deal.If they need to be at the FF,I will mail to where ever they need to go or they can mailed directly to the winner after the drawing.SS

Hi SteveA - Thank you for that great donation! I just spent some blissful time reading in the link you provided; the poems are excellent! I'm sure whoever wins the book will really enjoy it!

Hi Krista -

My name is Donna Perham (callmeD) and I have started a new, second massage therapy practice in Meredith. My main location is in Melrose, MA (10 years), and I am hoping to eventually move to Gilford where I have a second home once I become established in Meredith.

I would like to donate a gift certificate for a 75 minute massage (valued at $85.00).

My business name is

Donna M. Perham, LMT, NCTMB
3 Main Street
Meredith, NH 03252
Tel. 603.707.1255

Would you like me to mail the Gift Certificate to you? I am hoping to attend the Forum Fest, but I'm not 100% sure at this point.

Thanks.

Donna

Thank you Donna! :)

GWC... 09-09-2008 11:15 AM

Just noticed that IG listed Love Bites Pastry Shop's surprise epicurean delight as a raffle item.

Wow...

Am having trouble understanding the difference between a donated item for consumption at the Forum Fest and a donated raffle item.

Love Bites Pastry Shop's delectable delight, Steve A's chili, and Misty Blues' grilling, were my understanding, to be consumed by the attendees. Did I miss something?

My mind thinks of these items as that which makes an event a happening. Similar to such necessary items as paper and plastic products, tables and chairs, beverages - water, ice tea, and/or sodas, ice, salads - greens, potato, or egg, cookies, brownies, chips, dips, and lots of smiling faces denoting happiness.

Just curious and confused...

Speaking of which, have the necessity items been donated? Is there a list somewhere of whom will be able to bring what?

Happpy thought - eleven days 'til the happening... :liplick: :)

Presenting this year's Forum Fest Quilt! It is aprox. 54" by 73". It is all cotton, inside and out. I don't even want to think about how long it took to do the hand quilting, but the hand work is what makes this beauty even more special. You'll have to check out the back of the quilt in person to really appreciate the detail (white on white stitching doesn't photograph well).

I chose the red/white/blue colors because this is an important election year and I wanted to convey a feeling of patriotism.

Below is a picture showing the entire quilt, and a second picture showing the detailed hand stitching.

Ok, everyone . . . I've done my part. Let's raise lots of money for our hosts at the Loon Center!!!!

Hi GWC - thank you for your note. I'd like to address your concerns, as best I can, as this is something that I was prepared for...

On the "official announcement" thread, I've asked folks to RSVP and to list what they're bringing for food. There's not much of a food list so I think I'm going to start a separate thread for food. I don't wish to coordinate it but I can start the thread.... It's likely that more people than just those posters who have RSVP'd will be coming and we'll have plenty of food/drink items. Keep in mind several posters can't make the plans to come until the last minute, which is understandable.

In short, I don't expect that list of food to start coming together until early next week... that's perfectly normal for something like this.

About food donations....

I think I misunderstood LoveBites donation as a donation for the raffle vs. a donation for the food table. Because there were people donating items, listing food, etc. on the announcement thread, it got confusing (at least for me...) I called Darcy @ LoveBites and she confirmed they are bringing something for the food table AND something as a donation.

This just can't get any better, can it?? :liplick:

As a side note....
Before this thing got rocking, I had polled some of the old guard about the possible donation of food items for forum fest, as it's something that might need to be shipped or need special storage. They stated it was "totally up to you" but cautioned me about shipping food items or liquids. (Good advise and common sense.)

Thanks for your questions about the food, etc. - I can promise you I will be starting a food thread soon and expect we'll have better answers to your questions soon. :)

I will see you all at forum fest

Flyguy - that's a great donation! I'm sure the winner will be thrilled.

Have I asked you yet if you need an assistant? I make great coffee and can type over 60 WPM while at 3,000 ft. :D

Keep your kitty warm!

Deb can't make the FF as she will be working at the Science Center that day.

She will donate a Pet Puff (Kitty bed) for the raffle and hopes to see some of you at the post-game wrap up in our hot tub!

Misty Blue.

ForumFest 2008

It is with great regret Rattlesnake Guy and I will not be able to make this year’s ForumFest at the Loon Center. We have guests scheduled for an Island visit that have already been rescheduled by us from their original date in August. But if they cancel out on us, I’ll be there with bells on! (Now I feel like a crumb because I want them to cancel.)

Our raffle item is a drawstring Lake Winnipesaukee map bag. Hopefully we can drop it off at Quilt Lady’s house along with some raffle money. I don’t want to miss out on a chance to win her beautiful work of art.

Argie's Wife 09-14-2008 10:21 PM

Rattlesnake Gal - What a cool bag! Thanks for the donation!

Deb - The kitty puff will be purrrr-fect, I'm sure! :) Thank you for your donation!

There's gonna be some happy loons after this event!

I would like to donate a lawn mowing up to a 75.00 value. The only bad part is that it has to be one of the towns that I mow in already, which consists of Meredith, Moultonboro, laconia, holderness,Center Harbor, gilford, and New Hampton.
If this is acceptable please let me know.
Thanks Ken

Argie's Wife 09-16-2008 07:04 PM

Hi Ken - I don't see why it wouldn't be as long as people putting their raffle tickets in the cup for your item fully understand that your services are available only in the towns you mentioned.

Thank you for the wonderful donation! :)

Argie's Wife 09-17-2008 09:58 AM

I just received a really neat raffle item today from GTO...

http://www.daydeal.com/files/images9/jabra-sp5050.jpg

This is a Jabra SP5050 Bluetooth Speakerphone.. can be used in the car or in the boat for hands-free communication. If you look these up on Google, they retail for about $75. Very cool device! :coolsm:

(I get giddy with electronics... most women like diamonds... I like gadgets.)

Thanks GTO! Great donation!

It's a go!

I have cleared the path to attend FF2008 (Yeah!), and here is my contribution to the raffle.

It is a photo of the Mount Washington steamer docking at Center Harbor at the turn of the 20th Century, some time around 1895. This framed photo was produced from a 4" x 5" gelatin (emulsion) dry glass negative that is in the possession of descendents of the Goldthwait family of Moultonborough, NH and to my knowledge have not been commercially reproduced.

Argie's Wife 09-17-2008 07:42 PM

Pineneedles - that's a fascinating print - WOW!

Thank you for the donation! I look forward to meeting you at the FFV.

raffle item

Pineneedles...great photo!
Anyway....As all Saturdays are the single most difficult day of the week for me to be away from work, sadly, I can not attend FF. I truly wanted to meet many members, and tried hard to make it happen, but no go. Certainly my loss. And probably a loss for several members who would have had the chance to give me a smack in the head. (just kidding)
So....I would like to donate a raffle item. I don't have any great, old photos...and am not skilled enough to build, knit, or create anything of value, so as boring as it may be, the best I can come up with is a restaurant gift card. I'm thinking Tbones/CJ's in Laconia...it could be used there or any of their 6 or 7 locations in Southern NH.
I'm not quite sure what to do, or how to get it to FF?????????
I will be at the lake tonight (late) and all day tommorow, until 6AM Saturday. Perhaps I could meet up with someone reading this and leave it with them on Friday? I'll be in Meredith, Laconia, and Wolfeboro at various times during the day. Maybe I could leave off a few bucks for raffle tickets as well?
If this does not work, I could always mail it to the winner.
Argie's Wife, perhaps you could advise.
If anyone thinks they could meet up on Friday, and would take it with them to FF, send me a PM.
Thanks.

Argie's Wife 09-18-2008 01:24 PM

sa meredith -

Thanks for the offer of giving something for raffle.

There's a few options:

1) You could mail the item to the winner at the end of the raffle

2) Are you passing through Alton on your way to Wolfboro? I could possibly meet you somewhere on Friday to receive the item you're donating.

3) You could simply donate whatever money you had planned on spending on a gift certificate right to The Loon Center and ask that it be applied to the total money raised from the Forum Fest. I could also receive any money you're donating for raffle tickets, if you wish. Email me a jarg@metrocast.net if you want to coordinate a time/location to meet.

You asked how to get to Forum Fest - there's directions on the "official announcement" thread. If you have ever been to The Castle In The Clouds, then you have been VERY CLOSE to The Loon Center.

If you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance feel free to tag me - I'm happy to help!

update on item 30

I would like to make the pictures 5 sets of two pictures each, with one framed (donated by Lively Designs in Moultonboro) and one unframed.
Sorry I have had computer trouble and have not had a chance to post copies of what they are.

wine basket

I just picked up the wine basket from Center Harbor Cellars, it's beautiful, they do such nice work! Tomorrow is very iffy for me at this point, so I'm going to drop it off at the Loon Center this afternoon on my way to work so if tomorrow ends up being a disaster, at least my raffle item will be there!;)

SteveA 09-20-2008 05:24 PM

And the winners are....

Just Kidding.. Argie's Wife will list the raffle prize winners. The biggest winner was the Loon Center!

I'm not even going to announce the final number, and it's impressive. It's up to Raffle Lady (RRR) and our fearless leader, (Argie's Wife) Three Cheers!:cheers::cheers:

Thanks to all the donors, the prizes were great!

Argie's Wife 09-22-2008 07:40 AM

*BUMP*

I've received requests to post the total amount donated and winners, which I had posted on 9/20 but our fearless leader decided to start a thread of post-forum fest comments.

Maybe he can snip this post into that thread or change the title of this thread?

Thanks, Don! :)
