Old Navy Test Site in Lake W?

In a thread in the main forum there is discussion about wrecks in Winnipesaukee and someone mentions an old Navy test site... Very fascinating!

Could someone please tell me more about this?

THANKS! :)

During World War II the United States Navy operated a test sight for remote controlled submarines off the north western side of the island. Off the south side of the island remains a US Navy sound test laboratory and is a popular dive site.

I've dove the Empty Pockets wreck and searched for the Lab but I can't find it. Maybe a few more tries and Iwill get lucky!

Lost

Be careful. This could be a site similar to the "Lost" TV show. Any disappearing boats around that area? Any plane crashes??

Test site info

For info, go to the Lake Winnipesaukee Historical website, Diamond Island, Spooner family. There is good info as well as photos of what it looked like.

For Scubajay, go east from Empty Pockets. There is a brown boat house that sits low in the water. On the right side of the boat house, in about 10 feet of water is a concerete pillar with a steel frame around the top. This is the beginning of the tracks. The debris field continues southeast into deeper water. There are other parts, but that is the easiest to find.

I took this picture at the site in early July. I'll try and get some better pictures on my next dive.
