Duck Cam

A duck names Daisy recently laid 8 eggs in the flower planter at the end of a neighbors dock. I have isolated a camera on her so with a little luck we can watch the eggs hatch and then watch the ducklings. It updates one a minute and there is also a video feed.

Ain't she a little late?

In Gilford, a mom went by this morning with 6 chicks, they were about 1/3 the mom's size.

Thanks for the feed!

Bear Islander 07-13-2008 06:35 PM

The people from the State said this may be her second set this year or she could be immature.

SIKSUKR 07-14-2008 10:20 AM

Sounds a littie creapy on my part but I was watching the Richard's family cam Friday. You had quite a group of kids and adults hanging on the dock before that storm rolled in.I'll be checking out the duck cam also. Thanks for the cams BI,they are fun.

SAMIAM 07-15-2008 08:26 AM

That's cool,B.I.....nice of you to put that up.

kthy66 07-15-2008 11:51 AM

Hi BI, Daisy is such a good little mom.
Can you tell us who named her?
How did you spot her there?
How did you get the cam so close to her? Did you have to sneak up while she was away from the nest?
Sorry for so many questions... Im just curious :D

Pepper 07-17-2008 10:53 AM

I love it!

With all the stress of life, it's nice to take a few moments and simply watch the wonder of mother nature. BI, thanks for providing us with this wonderful way to watch this sweet little duck as she incubates her eggs. I just love it!

Our neighbors named her. One day they saw one egg in the planter. The next day they noticed there were two eggs in the planter. They thought is was someone playing a joke on them, they had no idea the eggs were real. However the next day there were three eggs and a live duck.

I mounted the camera by approaching the planter very slowly and quietly. She never moved, but kept a close watch. A boat that is just inches away from her comes and goes regularly.

I hope this ends well, with 8 little ducklings following Daisy into the lake. But this is nature up close and real. It is what it is.

kthy66 07-17-2008 01:03 PM

Thanks BI!!
Every morning I wake up worried that some critter raided her nest overnight.. Its a relief to open up the cam and see her still there every day.
Every once in a while I see her little beak open up... I assume she is quacking at someone or something.. Kinda surprised she doesnt just stay quiet and duck down to hide (excuse the pun) LOL

Make Way for Ducklings! :)

baja-mama 07-18-2008 09:39 AM

Does she ever leave the nest?

I would think she'd get hot in the sun and need to eat and drink. How often does she leave the eggs unattended?

NHKathy 07-18-2008 01:38 PM

Looks like it's raining up there ...

Daisy needs an umbrella -they're all getting wet! LOL
This is a great cam to look at every day! Thanks BI!

SteveA 07-19-2008 06:13 AM

What a great cam!

Thanks BI... I love this cam.

I do have an idea though, it would be cool to put up a "sticky poll" to "Name That Duckling" Someone smarter than me would have to actually set up the poll

Maybe we nominate a bunch of names for the babies and vote for the 8 most popular?

I'm thinking.. No Wake , GFBL , Flower Pot ..... you get the drift. :)

PS.. I think one of them needs to be named "Don" for all he puts up with to make this site happen.

Mee-n-Mac 07-19-2008 06:57 AM

One could be .....

Good idea ! One of them is bound to be .... less attractive .... than the rest. The ugly duckling could be named .... errr .... well .... hmmmmm .... you know I think I hear something burning on the stove ... be right back. ;) :D

Bear Islander 07-19-2008 03:01 PM

Before you can have a vote you need nominations. I was thinking these were the obvious answers

Huey, Dewey, Louie, April, May, June, Daffy, Scrooge, Gyro Gearloose, Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century.

Donald is already taken. That is the dad that hangs around sometimes.

SIKSUKR 07-19-2008 04:00 PM

I'll be the ugly one but it has to be a little different.I'll say SIKQUACKER or SIKCLUCKER.

SAMIAM 07-21-2008 10:24 AM

Where's Daisy?....is the Duckcam down or is it my server?

kthy66 07-21-2008 11:35 AM

It was working this morning but can't get it to work now.. :(

And its gettting close to duckling time!

SAMIAM 07-21-2008 07:18 PM

Ooop's.....Got it back at home but not at my office.....must have been my server.Disregard:confused:

SteveA 07-22-2008 01:26 PM

OK so lets going... we need a vote.. ( and it's not Obama or McCain)

so.. who is smart enough to post a poll. I know I'm not the one..

So far we have:
Huey, Dewey, Louie, April, May, June, Daffy, Scrooge, Gyro Gearloose, Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century ( From BI) (Love the cam.. weak on the names though) SIKQUACKER or SIKCLUCKER., from SIKSUKR .. Mee-N- Mac submitted.. (oh wait.. he didn't really submit a name) is he trying to duck out of this? Hummm... (sorry couldn't resist the duck reference)

I also think DON or Webmaster needs to be on the list.

Help... let's get tis poll going..

PS.. I still think GFBL and No Wake are good names. :):):):)

how bout:

Broads
Witches
Paugus
Winni
Wolf
Moulton
Alton
Meredith
Mrs. Beakley (how could you forget this one if you were a DuckTales Fan)
GizmoDuck
Aces
Shep
Thurston
Irwin
Silver
Fitzgerald

Just thought some Lake Winni focal points and well know places would be fitting for the duckling's names

rrr 07-22-2008 03:11 PM

Is that a baby duck I see?

Pineedles 07-22-2008 03:28 PM

Cell phone

I mistakenly thought some leaves were cracked eggshells earlier this week.

No worries though. Do you see the power supply plugged in? It's in the lower left hand part of the screen. Its Daisy's cell phone charger.

Isn't Bear Islander considerate? He gave her a cell phone to call when she's going to deliver, I mean cracking, I mean hatching.

SAMIAM 07-28-2008 07:27 PM

I'm getting worried,Bear....I check at least twice a day and she never seems to leave the nest to eat.Can you throw her a little bread maybe?I don't allow anyone to feed ducks on my beach but I have a soft spot for expectant mom's.

Hi Sam, I check out Daisy everyday.. I actually keep the site open on my desk top so I can see how she's doing. She leaves the nest once or twice a day for a half hour to an hour.. She's a good little mom.
Hopefully we will see some ducklings soon!!!

tis 07-29-2008 06:18 PM

Why can't I use the live video of Daisy? It say the Active X camera used cannot be registered on my computer.

SAMIAM 07-30-2008 06:34 AM

For some reason,Tiz,the same thing came up on Internet Explorer.but I get it on AOL. Try another server.

tis 07-30-2008 06:26 PM

Thanks Sam, I will try that. Do you have Vista?

tis 07-30-2008 06:46 PM

Sam, I just went in through firefox and it worked. Thanks for the tip. I am still curious why IE wouldn't work.

Bear Islander 07-31-2008 11:24 AM

One egg has hatched. The rest are supposed to come along quickly now.

Congradulations dad.Cigars are in order I believe.

kjbathe 07-31-2008 12:22 PM

Quickly?

I would say so -- an hour later and I just saw three ducklings! :)

KonaChick 07-31-2008 06:21 PM

Simply sweet. Just a general reminder NOT to feed the mom or the ducklings but I'm sure the fine folks on BI know these facts! :)

Skip 08-01-2008 05:49 PM

Where are the babies?

Has Mom already taken them out for their first swim lessons?

jrc 08-02-2008 09:44 AM

Looks like they move on already. I heard they move soon after hatching to avoid predators but that was quick.

Bear Islander 08-03-2008 12:28 PM

Daisy laid 8 eggs. 7 eggs hatched.

For a few days we have seen a Bald Eagle perched nearby. This morning there are 5 chicks and the eagle was perched on a branch above the nest.

Daisy seems to be staying near shore under overhanging branches. I assume that is her only protection from the eagle.

Islander 08-03-2008 05:32 PM

Suddenly the Eagle is the bad guy of the story.

Why is this in the WebCAM section? The subject is Ducks not WebCams.

Pineedles 08-03-2008 05:56 PM

Huh?

BI was updating us on the Duck Cam, Islander. His reply/thread is perfectly situated. BI did not embelish on the news, he simply reported it. Or is this an attempt to draw some idiot like me out, to defend a guy who needs no defense?

What part of Duck Cam do you not understand?

You'll have to spin your tale to BI.

It's his thread, wordage, and hence, placement.

Oh, but to be a wallflower, when two spinners have a disagreement conversion. :D

Bear Islander 08-04-2008 04:49 PM

There will be an article of Daisy in the Citizen, probably Tuesday.

Daisy has not been seen today.

Lindberg the eagle pulled a large bass out of the water on the fly. He took it to a high branch for lunch.

Pineedles 08-04-2008 07:26 PM

Bea Island's Eagle

BI,
Keep Lindberg on Bear Isle. I have enough problem catching bass up here in Center Harbor without his interference.

Daisy Duck makes the paper!

Just as Bear Islander predicted....Daisy Duck makes the pages of the Citizen with a couple of nice photos and prominent mention made once again of Winnipesaulee.com!

Great story that can be read on-line HERE! :)

mrportjeff 08-05-2008 09:35 AM

Citizen Story

Great article in the "CITIZEN" today! Love looking at the web cam

kthy66 08-05-2008 09:37 AM

Thank you very much BI for giving us the opportunity to watch nature at its best. She's a terrific little mom. I couldnt believe her dedication to sitting on that nest through all those terrible storms!
Thanks again!!
